FortisBC offers a $4,000 rebate when you replace an older gas furnace with a dual fuel system: a new central ducted heat pump paired with a new high efficiency gas furnace, run by one set of controls. Income qualified households can get $8,000. The heat pump handles heating and cooling through most of our mild Lower Mainland winter, and the furnace takes over on the coldest days.
What you need to qualify:
• A residential FortisBC natural gas account at your year round primary home
• A gas furnace at least 15 years old that is your home's main heating system (boilers are not eligible)
• A heat pump and furnace combination with an AHRI certified reference number covering the outdoor unit, indoor unit and furnace
• In the Lower Mainland, the system must switch from heat pump to furnace at 5°C or lower
• Installation by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor in good standing with the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) and listed for this rebate
• The system must be installed after October 15, 2026
Condos and apartments are not eligible for the dual fuel rebate. FortisBC allows one primary space heating rebate per home, so we will help you choose the program that pays you the most.

FortisBC announced on October 6, 2026 that its dual fuel rebates are returning for systems installed after October 15, 2026. Gas heated homes can get $4,000 for a qualifying dual fuel system, and income qualified households can get $8,000.The new program comes with stricter requirements than before. Your existing furnace must be at least 15 years old, the new heat pump and furnace must be certified together as a matched system, and your installer must be specifically listed with FortisBC for this rebate. FortisBC has said full program details and deadlines will follow, so we will update this page as soon as they are published.
How to claim it:
You apply for the rebate yourself through FortisBC. Your installer submits the commissioning details and photos of your old and new equipment, and gives you the paperwork you need for your application. Installation timing matters: a system installed on or before October 15, 2026 should not be assumed to qualify. Talk to us before booking and we will confirm your system and timing meet the requirements.
Alongside the dual fuel offer, FortisBC announced additional rebates for income qualified households:
• Water heater: $2,500
• Thermostat: up to $200
• Ventilation: up to $2,400
• Insulation: up to $2,000
• Windows and doors: up to $7,500
Each rebate has its own equipment and eligibility requirements, and rebates cannot simply be added together. Ask us during your free quote which ones apply to your home.
Limited time bonus: BC Hydro is offering bonus rebates of up to $1,000 on top of its regular heat pump rebate. Your eligible air source heat pump must be installed, invoiced and paid for between August 1 and October 31, 2026, and your complete rebate application must be submitted by November 30, 2026. Bonus funding is first come, first served and can end early, so the sooner you book, the better.
If your home is heated with electric baseboards or an electric furnace, you could get up to $4,000 for switching to a heat pump through the Home Renovation Rebate Program, a partnership between BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Province of BC.
Rebate amounts:
• $4,000 for a whole home heat pump that meets 100% of your home's heating needs at minus 5°C
• $1,500 for a partial home heat pump that meets at least 50% of your home's heating needs
• Up to $1,000 for a heat pump water heater replacing an electric tank
• Up to $2,000 bonus for completing more than one upgrade, such as insulation or windows
What you need to qualify:
• The heat pump must replace your primary electric heating system
• It must be on the rebate eligible product list and have a variable speed compressor
• It must be installed by an HPCN member (self installs are not eligible)
• Apply within six months of your invoice date
• Replacing an existing heat pump, or adding a head to one, is not eligible
Since April 11, 2025, this program no longer offers heat pump rebates for homes in southern BC switching from natural gas, oil or propane. If your home is heated with gas, see the FortisBC dual fuel rebate above and the income qualified program below.

The CleanBC Energy Savings Program offers the biggest rebates in BC, based on your household size, combined income before tax, and your property's assessed value.
Rebate amounts for houses, townhomes and duplexes:
• Up to $13,000 for a heat pump
• Up to $3,500 for a heat pump water heater
• Extra rebates for electrical service upgrades, ventilation, and health and safety work
For example, a household of four may qualify with a combined income up to $94,900 (Level 1), $118,600 (Level 2) or $189,800 (Level 3). Level 3 is only for homes switching from natural gas, propane or oil to an electric heat pump.
How it works: preregister online and get your code (valid for three months), get quotes from Energy Savings Program registered contractors, then have your upgrade installed. The rebate is paid to your contractor directly, so you only pay the rest.
Income qualified owners and renters: up to $5,000 for a heat pump and up to $3,500 for a heat pump water heater through the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, for units heated with electricity. Renters can apply with their landlord's consent.
All other owners:BC Hydro's Condo and Apartment Rebate Program offers up to $2,250 for replacing electric heat with a heat pump and $1,000 for a heat pump water heater, plus the limited time bonus of up to $1,000 through October 31, 2026. It is for owners of a unit in a strata or equity cooperative building with six or more units. You need approval from your strata and from BC Hydro before you buy equipment.

• $50 for a furnace or boiler (one per household)
• $50 for a tankless water heater
• $25 each for up to two indoor gas fireplaces
To qualify, you must be a residential FortisBC gas customer, use a licensed gas contractor, and apply online within 60 days of your service invoice. Rebates arrive as a bill credit (or a cheque if you are not the account holder) and can take up to 90 days to process. Annual maintenance also helps extend the life of your equipment and keep manufacturer warranties valid.
On October 8, 2026, the federal government announced a $2 billion National Heat Pump Rebate. It is expected to offer up to $10,000 for households below the median income and $2,000 for other homeowners who install an eligible electric cold climate air source heat pump. Applications are not open yet and are expected to launch in early 2027. We will update this page as soon as details are confirmed.
